Republican Party Platform 2011
What we are working for on behalf of the residents of Burlington
- An open, honest and candid approach to town government.
Examples: using the town website as a communication tool, with published meeting agendas and minutes; the LED sign at Town Hall; mailings to residents on key developments.
- Exercising the financial conservatism that is a Republican Party hallmark.
Examples: A town budget with the lowest increase in 10 years and three consecutive years of school budget increases of less than 2%; substantial annual savings from automated trash and recycling removal.
- A business-friendly environment that encourages appropriate development of the town and nurtures the creation of jobs.
Examples: extension of the water line through the Central Business District; coordinated approach to development through a consultative town planner.
- An atmosphere of continuous improvement throughout town government, increasing efficiency while delivering improved constituent services.
Examples: reorganization of town government roles, restructuring of work hours, fighting fraud and waste, regionalization of services and the implementation of modern business practices.
- Improvements to our town’s open spaces and other natural resources.
Examples: completed paving of the Farmington River bike trail; repairs to the tennis courts at Town Hall; the proposed pedestrian-friendly town center and the potential acquisition of new open space on Covey Rd.
